Faculty within the Department of Communication have (on average) more than 10 years of professional experience and 16 years of teaching experience.

Osborne named Volunteer of the Year by Commerce Lexington
Phil Osborne, CEO of Preston-Osborne Marketing Communications and Research and a 1979 Communication Department alumnus of EKU, has been named the Commerce Lexington 2009 Volunteer of the Year. The Volunteer of the Year Award is annually given to the person who best demonstrates the volunteer spirit, in both their participation and the effectiveness and outcome of their effort. Osborne, who serves on the Commerce Lexington Executive Committee and as Vice Chair of the Communications Committee, was presented with the award at the Commerce Lexington Annual Dinner.
"I am truly flattered to receive this award and I thank everyone most sincerely for the recognition, which came as a complete and total surprise," Osborne said. "I have always welcomed the opportunity to give something back to a community that has been so good to me and my family and I look forward to continuing those efforts in the years to come."

Dr. Karen Rudick wins Distinguished Educational Leader Award
The Academic Affairs committee of the Student Senate recently honored CMS professor Karen Rudick with its Distinguished Educational Leader (DEL) award for her "exceptional classroom performance" during the Fall 2009 semester. She will be invited to the Student Government Association Spring Banquet along with the winners of the DEL award winners for Spring 2010 to accept her plaque.
Scriptwriting Contest -- Summer Film Internship Program 2010
The Department of Communication has annouced a scriptwriting contest as part of its 2010 Summer Film Internship Program. The selected script will go into production Summer 2010.
Eligible scripts should be 7-10 pages in length, include six locations or less, and require no stunts, moving vehicles or firearms. While the Drama genre is preferred, special consideration will be given for exceptional scripts. The entry deadline is Monday, March 8, 2010.

Advisory Board member publishes new novel
Mike Embry, a member of the Department of Communication Advisory Board, recently published a new novel called A Confidential Man, a murder mystery about a sports columnist who has to decide if he should break confidences from co-workers. He had previously published three other novels. Embry is Community/State Communications Coordinator for the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security in Frankfort.
Rodney Ratliff Scholarship
The Rodney Ratliff Scholarship will be granted annually to a student or students at the beginning of the junior year (completed 60 hours or more) in the College of Business & Technology who demonstrates exceptional character, scholarship, leadership and professionalism as selected by the Executive Council in the College of Business & Technology.
