The Department of Communication offers courses that emphasize hands-on learning as well as models of instruction that teach students not only how to be successful media professionals, but also how to recognize and adjust to the changing media environment of the 21st century.
Faculty within the Department of Communication have (on average) more than 10 years of professional experience and 16 years of teaching experience.

Liz Hansen named EKU Foundation Professor
Congratulations to Dr. Liz Hansen who was just named Foundation Professor - effective for 2008-2010. The Foundation Professor award recognizes the individual for his/her excellence in the classroom and dedication to students and other faculty as well. Dr. Hansen will be recognized for this achievement at both of the Spring commencement ceremonies on May 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Ferrell Wellman next Comment on Kentucky host
Current EKU Department of Communication lecturer and veteran broadcaster Ferrell Wellman, who has appeared on KET in various capacities for more than 30 years, has been named host of Comment on Kentucky. He succeeds originating host Al Smith, who retired in November.

Scholarship News -- The Ralph W. Gabbard Educational Scholarship was
established to honor the memory
of a man who gave so much to
the field of television in central
and eastern Kentucky. It is the
aim of this scholarship to further
the qualities of leadership and
knowledge that Ralph Gabbard
exhibited every day as a national
leader in broadcasting. The scholarship includes a $5,000 cash award for one school
year (renewable) and a summer internship at WKYT or WYMT. To be eligible, you must live within viewing area of WKYT
or WYMT, be at least a junior in any
Kentucky college, be matriculated for a Broadcast
Journalism or Mass Communication
degree, and have a 3.0 overall academic standing. Financial need will be a
consideration. To apply, contact WKYT or WYMT. Application form must be
submitted with a one-page essay on
how the student believes he or she could help
perpetuate Mr. Gabbard's vision. Deadline for submission is
June 1.
