Community Relations Student Internship
and part-time Print Shop position -- East Tennessee Children’s Hospital (4/29/08)
Paid internship opportunities in Knoxville. Position begins June 2008 and ends December 2008.
Responsibilities include:
- Writing and distributing press releases for local media
- Assisting with major event promotion and planning
- Maintaining employee bulletin board
- Conducting hospital tours
- Assisting with Service Excellence compliment/suggestion program
- Compiling, writing for and designing various hospital publications
- Writing for hospital's Web site, www.etch.com
- Taking photographs or working with freelance photographer as needed
- Assisting with programs of the Healthy Kids Community Education Campaign
- Assisting Print Shop's staff with duplicating and deliveries of print jobs to hospital departments.
Requirements:
- MUST be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate communications classes during the semester of the
internship
- Completion of a hospital employment application form during the interview (including employment
history and minimum of three professional references) and other components of employment process,
including health screen and drug test prior to first day of work
- Provide a current resume
- Provide original writing samples of the interviewee's own college level communications work or from
the interviewee's previous communications internships/employment (including a minimum of three
writing samples to be retained by Children's Hospital; photocopies will be accepted)
- About 15 hours per week, with about one-third of those hours dedicated to the hospital's Print Shop
and the remainder of those hours devoted to the Community Relations Department
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends, according to the needs of the Community Relations
staff (advance notice will be given)
- Access to transportation (presence at events, classes, etc., not on the Children’s Hospital campus is
periodically required, as are errands to off-site locations)
- Proficiency in InDesign, PageMaker, PhotoShop and Microsoft Word on PC and Mac platforms

- Photography experience preferred.

Academic Fellowship Program -- Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (2/25/08)
The Foundation for the Defense of Democracies is accepting applications for its Academic Fellows anti-terrorism training program. This program provides university professors with a detailed understanding of the terror threat that faces our nation and sister democracies. Centered on a 10-day course taught in conjunction with Tel Aviv University, the program takes place entirely in Israel and runs June 9-June 20, 2008 (travel inclusive). Participants interact with academics, diplomats, military and intelligence officials, and politicians from Israel, Jordan, India, Turkey and the United States. They also visit military bases, border zones and other security installations to learn the practical side of deterring terrorist attacks. All expenses are paid by FDD. The final deadline for applications is March 31, 2008.

Production Internship Opportunities (Tampa Bay) -- Home Shopping Network (1/29/08)
HSN (Home Shopping Network) is looking for interns for the summer months. The program is looking for anyone who would be interested in Set Building/Decorating/Lighting, Live Television Production, and/or Shooting/Editing Video.
The program is set up in four separate tracks. Each track is designed for interns who wish learn more about the areas above and gain as much hands-on experience as possible. Regardless of which track the intern is interested in, the intern will begin with a one to three week overview period of each position related to the track he/she chooses. At the end of the overview period, the intern will meet with professionals to hear which two or three areas he/she is interested in focusing on. The remainder of the internship will encompass the intern’s training in the interested areas.
- Television Operations -- The positions featured are Backstage Coordination (product set up), Stage Managing, Audio, Graphics, Assistant Directing, Robotic/Handheld Cameras, On-Air Associate Producing, and Producing.
- Sets and Lighting -- The areas featured are Visual (Set decorating, prop building/decorating, trend research), Scenic (Set building, painting, and striking), and Lighting (Setting up and striking of live show lighting and set up of lighting boards).
- Off-Line Shooting and Editing -- Off-Line Shooting works on shoots for promos, commercials, and support footage for products. Editing works on all the raw footage from those shoots and creates packages for use by the on-air crews.
- Generic track -- Combines all the tracks listed above. After the overview period, the intern can then pick from two or three areas listed above and combine them to essentially make their internship practically tailor made for them.
The program over all is 12 to 16 weeks depending on the school and length of semester. All interns are required to work a minimum of 12 hours per week. We are very flexible with the intern’s schedule because the intern may be working at another job or is taking a course or two. Finally, the internship is for school credit only and the intern must find their own housing.

Supports the operation of the Human Resources Interviewing Department by coordinating interview schedules and assisting Interviewers. Performs various administrative duties and other assignments when needed.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with HR Coordinator to coordinate, organize and schedule phone and on-site interviews for applicants
- Communicate with applicants throughout the interview process by phone and email
- Work with the HR Coordinator with interview preparation (prepare and grade paperwork, administer and time all tests)
- Check applicant references and verification of employment dates for all potential hires
- Enter applicant information into HR Tracking Database
- Research applicant using websites such as careerbuilder, monster, hotjobs, etc.
- Maintain and update job postings for employment websites
- Work with HR department in creating various emails and newsletters to current and potential new hires
- Work closely with HR Interviews, HR Recruiters, HR Assistants and HR Manager
- Assist in other HR areas when needed
