Dr. Don Cain was the film historian of the department for many years. He taught every film genre course and all of the film history courses. There was little about film, past and present, Dr. Cain didn't know. He was also the department's "artist-in-residence," filling the walls of the old Donovan Annex where the department was housed for many years into a virtual "art gallery." Don painted the logos of many local, national, and international media outlets and services on the walls of that building. He painted everything from the Paramount mountains to words of the First Amendment, mostly by hand. Although we are no longer housed in the Donovan Annex, we took digital photos of every logo and design he painted and we now have the framed originals hanging on the walls of the Combs Building.
Don Cain was awarded Faculty Emeritus status in 2000. |
